Maspalomas isn’t just a beach town—it’s a gay mecca. Located in Gran Canaria, Spain, this paradise offers year-round sun, legendary gay beaches, a wild cruising scene, and an LGBTQ+ nightlife hub like no other. Whether you’re here for Pride, Winter Pride, Freedom Festival, or just looking for some steamy fun, Maspalomas delivers.

Why I LOVE Maspalomas?

I have been to Maspalomas 4 times so far: Three May Prides (2022, 2023, 2024) and one Winter Pride (2024).

I wanted to first go to Maspalomas in May 2022 (during Pride AND Eurovision Week) because I was so sure the amazing Chanel was going to win Eurovision in 2022 with her spectacular song & show “Slomo” but thanks to the war in Ukraine and politically influenced voting, that didn’t happen. However I fell in love with Maspalomas and it sort of became my tradition for Eurovision Week to visit the place.

As an American, I didn’t really know any other Americans who had been to Canary Islands before but as a Turk, I knew the legendary queer singer Zeki Muren (aka Turkey’s Liberace) had expressed that was his favorite vacation spot.

I LOVE Maspalomas because it’s GAY AF, it’s the meeting spot for European gays which is a nice change after being exposed to North Americans gay culture, the climate is amazing, the landscapes are phonemonal, and there are plenty of affordable options for accomodations, gay clubs and bars, food and drinks. Also, literally there is NO PLACE LIKE YUMBO CENTER ON EARTH, so that makes Maspalomas one of a kind.

🌞 When to Visit – Best Time for Gay Travelers

Maspalomas is a 365-day gay hotspot, but certain times of the year turn up the heat:

🔥 Maspalomas Pride (May) – One of Europe’s best prides, with pool parties, boat parties, and club events.
🔥 Maspalomas Winter Pride (November) – If you miss summer, this is your second chance.
🔥 Freedom Festival (October) – Circuit-style parties mixed with cultural events.
🔥 Carnival (February-March) – Not officially LGBTQ+, but incredibly campy and fun.

That said, any time of the year is great for beach days, cruising, and partying under the stars.

🏖️ Gay Beaches & Cruising in Maspalomas

1. Kiosk #7 – The Iconic Gay Beach & Dunes

📍 Location: Between Playa del Inglés & Maspalomas Dunes

The ultimate gay beach. You’ll find sun-kissed bodies, speedos, and plenty of socializing (or more 👀). Walk through the dunes to get there—it’s a mini adventure itself. And yes, the dunes are also the island’s biggest cruising area after sunset.

💡 Tip: Bring drinks/snacks since kiosks are limited. The real action starts later in the afternoon, and once the sun goes down, things get… fun.

2. PDI Cruising Areas

Aside from the dunes, check out:

  • CITA Center lower levels – Old-school cruising spot.
  • Yumbo Center outdoor spots – Late-night fun happens near bars like Mykonos.

🌈 Yumbo Center – The Beating Heart of Gay Maspalomas

📍 Location: Playa del Inglés
🕺 Best for: Bars, clubs, drag shows, cruising, and partying till dawn.

This massive open-air LGBTQ+ complex has everything—from cocktail lounges and drag bars to cruising clubs and circuit parties.

Best Gay Bars & Lounges

🍹 Adonis Bar – The spot for chilled-out pre-drinks with sexy bartenders.
🍹 Bar Diamonds – British-owned, lively, and great for meeting new people.
🍹 Mykonos Bar – Fun outdoor space, usually the starting point before the clubs.
🍹 The Basement Studios – Fetish bar with darkrooms (yes, things happen here).

💃 Gay Clubs & Circuit Parties

🔥 Mantrix – The main gay club, playing house, pop, and some Latin beats. Expect go-go boys, a fun mixed crowd, and late-night dancing.
🔥 Terry’s Show – A drag-heavy cabaret bar, perfect if you’re into campy performances.
🔥 Tubos – More relaxed, a great place to start your night before things escalate.

💡 Tip: Don’t start your night before midnight. Yumbo gets wild between 2-4 AM.

🍑 Gay Saunas & Cruising Spots

🚿 Heroes Sauna – The best (and biggest) gay sauna in Maspalomas, featuring dark rooms, slings, a jacuzzi, and a maze-like layout. Gets busy in the evening.

🚿 Ritual Sauna – Smaller than Heroes, but still worth checking out, especially on weekends.

💡 Tip: Maspalomas is known for outdoor cruising—the dunes, near CITA Center, and even some hotel areas get lively at night.

🎉 Fetish & Sex-Positive Events

Maspalomas isn’t just for circuit parties—it has one of Europe’s best fetish scenes. If you’re into leather, rubber, sportswear, or anything kink-related, plan your trip around:

🔗 Maspalomas Fetish Week (October) – Leather, rubber, and everything in between.
🔗 XXX Parties at The Basement Studios – Weekly fetish nights at the Yumbo Center.
🔗 Mad Bear Maspalomas (December) – A bear-heavy event with lots of cruising.

🍽️ Where to Eat in Maspalomas

Between all the partying and sunbathing, you’ll need fuel. Here are some solid options:

🍽️ Restaurante Las Rías – Fresh seafood and amazing views.
🍽️ Nuevo Rokoko – Italian spot in Yumbo, great for a relaxed dinner before a night out.
🍽️ Mana 264 – Trendy tapas spot, perfect for a pre-party meal.
🍽️ El Chacho – Mexican with strong margaritas and a fun atmosphere.

🏩 Best Gay & Gay-Friendly Hotels

Maspalomas has tons of LGBTQ-friendly hotels, but here are the best ones:

🏩 AxelBeach Maspalomas – The go-to gay hotel, with a pool that turns into a party spot.
🏩 Seven Hotel & WellnessMen-only, clothing-optional, and ultra-chic.
🏩 Vista Bonita – Gay Resort – Super chill, bungalow-style stay.

💡 Tip: Book early if you’re visiting during Pride or fetish weeks—places sell out fast.

📜 A Bit of LGBTQ+ History in Maspalomas

Maspalomas has been a gay hotspot since the 1970s, drawing visitors from across Europe. The Yumbo Center, built in the ’80s, became the heart of LGBTQ+ tourism, transforming Playa del Inglés into one of the world’s top queer destinations.

Even during Spain’s dictatorship, Gran Canaria was known as a safe space for LGBTQ+ people, and today, it continues to be a place of freedom, fun, and unapologetic queerness.

🔥 Final Thoughts – Why Maspalomas?

🌈 It’s one of the most sexually liberated, fun, and relaxed gay destinations in the world.
🏖️ Between the sun, beaches, and cruising culture, it’s impossible not to have a good time.
💃 The nightlife is unmatched, and Yumbo Center is a world of its own.

If you’re looking for a destination that mixes hedonism, community, and nonstop fun, Maspalomas is it.

Now, who’s ready for a speedo-packed adventure? 😈
